Fidelis’ Mont Belvieu retail complex a full go

December 23, 2021

There is hardly any doubt that Mont Belvieu is a growing city. Along with growth comes more residential as well as retail services. Mont Belvieu Crossing is a response to this growth, city officials say.

Mont Belvieu Crossing, a Fidelis Realty Partners project that sits at the corner of Interstate 10 and Eagle Drive, features an 87,000-square-foot H-E-B Grocery store, the first such store in the extended Mont Belvieu area. Another 200,000-square-feet of additional retail, restaurants, and services are being planned. One of the stores is a T.J. Maxx department store.

“The construction of T.J. Maxx is underway,” Stacey Matejka, Fidelis spokeswoman, said. Councilwoman Laurie Guidry added that the store might not be open until the first of the year.

The land developers are known in Baytown as the ones behind the redevelopment of San Jacinto Mall into the San Jacinto Marketplace.

Despite delays in getting the new mall developed in Baytown, Fidelis appears to be answering the call in Mont Belvieu.

Guidry said the development in Mont Belvieu is completely retail, with no residential aspect being planned. And more is coming.

“H-E-B is the first one, the anchor store. Then, the T.J. Maxx, and they are also finishing up a Starbuck’s,” Guidry said. “And a Whataburger is committed to coming there as well, as far as what we know.”

Guidry said the development is just part of the growth plan of the city.

“The residents really wanted an anchor grocery store, and this was before I became a councilperson. So, council went out and secured an H-E-B,” she said. “Then, council decided they wanted the row on the northwest side of I-10 to be more of a restaurant row. And we’ve been able to try and make that happen. But it is more growth for the city. H-E-B is a great move forward and the rest of the stores.”

Because the development is being headed by Fidelis, it is not something the city is involved with constructing.

Fidelis has secured Finest Nails, Great Clips, MOD Pizza, Supercuts, Knecht Orthodontics, UPS, Mont Belvieu Urgent Care, Mont Belvieu Dental and Orthodontics, Longhorn Liquor, and Yo Yo Café.

“We are excited about the way that the shopping center is developing and the future businesses it’s going to bring to our area,” Brian Ligon, City of Mont Belvieu spokesman, said in 2019. “We know it’s going to be really great for our community.”
