Baytown FEMA recovery center closing

November 21, 2017

The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Baytown will close Tuesday.

The center at the Baytown Community Center, 2401 Market St., will permanently close at 6 p.m., but those who still need assistance can find it in the following ways.

• Online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

• Calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.

• Via the FEMA app, available for Apple and Android mobile devices. To download visit: www.fema.gov/mobile-app.

• Visiting any of the disaster recovery centers still open. Locations of other recovery centers can be found online at www.fema.gov/DRC.

When registering, survivors should have the address of the location where the damage occurred, current mailing address, current telephone number, insurance information, total household annual income, routing and account number for checking or savings account so FEMA can directly transfer funds,  and a description of disaster-caused damage and losses.

Since the center opened in Baytown, more than 6,642 residents have been served, according to FEMA.

When Harvey dropped more than 50 inches of rain in the Baytown area, about 5,300 homes were affected in some way, but about 4,300 suffered flood damage.

Since Harvey hit Texas, the Small Business Administration has approved more than $2 billion in low-interest federal disaster loans to help Texas businesses and residents.

Businesses and residents who sustained damages are encouraged to register with FEMA before the Nov. 30 extended deadline at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.
